Arms cache found in Athurugiriya

A Police special team uncovered four claymore mines and C4 explosives hidden inside a house in Sumana Mawatha, Athurugiriya on Monday night. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said on information police raided an abandoned house located in Walgama, Sumana Mawatha around 9.10 p.m. and found bombs and explosives buried in the kitchen. Police found four claymore mines, 2.5kg C4 explosives, two bombs filled with C4 explosives and balls, four detonators, a remote control device, a dead code wire, a satellite phone, secret telephone number book, a bank card and a plastic bag to keep bombs. "We believe that residents were in connection with the LTTE and they had left the country sometime before", he added.

Athurugiriya police are investigating.
