Proud to be stakeholders in support for victory - UNP Democratic Group

Leader of the UNP Democratic Group and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.H. Mohamed said the opportunity they got to be stakeholders of the victory in the protection of our motherland is indeed a great fortune.

"As genuine UNPers, who love the motherland, we consider the opportunity we got to strengthen President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government.

"This we did by becoming genuine and active stakeholders in this heroic battle, courageously spearheaded by the President risking his life, to end the brutal war carried out by the Tiger terrorists over a period of three decades.

"We must not forget that this brutal war had the support of local and foreign conspirators to divide our motherland. These unpatriotic forces are still in operation and we as the Democratic group of the UNP will continue to lend our support to the President until all these forces are eradicated," Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.H. Mohamed said.

"We request all patriotic UNPers to get together to provide strength to the President to save the country from terrorism and to protect our motherland for future generations, without allowing it to be divided and also to achieve a permanent, sustainable and honourable peace, in which all communities in Sri Lanka can once again live side by side harmoniously.

"The Democratic Group of the United National party salutes all war heroes who scarified their lives for the sake of our motherland. The Defense Secretary, Commanders of the three armed forces and the IGP deserve special mention for implementing the political vision of the President. We join with all Sri Lankans to salute our soldiers in realizing the dream of peace," the release said.
