Rs. 50m Japanese assistance for displaced

The Japansese government has given assistance worth over Rs. 50
million to meet the requirement of civilians fled from the clutches of
LTTE to Vavuniya IDP camps yesterday.
Senior Advisor to the President, Basil Rajapaksa MP on behalf of the
government accepted the donation from Japanese envoy in Sri Lanka, Kunio
Takahashi.
A stock of 560 tents, 10,000 sleeping mats, 400 plastic sheets,
30,000 jerry cans and 1,000 mosquito nets were dispatched to Sri Lanka.
This is a call to the emergency request of aid by International
Organisation for Migration (IOM) which totaling to US $ 4 million
provided through UNHCR,UNICEF, ICRC. Meanwhile a stock of 6,255 MT of
rice and 132 tonnes of canned fish will also arrive in Sri Lanka
shortly, the Ministry said
Secretary to the Nation Building Ministry, W. K. K. Kumarasiri was
also present on the occaison.
