President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over a cheque for Rs. one million from Sri Lanka Telecom for sponsorship of the Havelock Sports Club, Colombo, for the current Rugby Season. President Rajapaksa said he was happy to participate in this sponsorship event as the Havelock Sports Club established in 1915, the oldest Rugby Club in Sri Lankan and because of the encouragement the club gave to new talent in Rugby, building good team spirit and sportsmanship. Those who participated at this event were Chairperson Sri Lanka Telecom Ms. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, CEO Mobiltel Suren J. Amarasekera with Priyantha Grero, President and General Secretary Havelock Sports Club Ruben Thananayagam. Others present were Mrs. D.G.V.S. Pavithra leads Sri Lanka rugby team to Dubai

CR and FC’s crack flanker Pavithra Fernando has been picked to lead the Sri Lanka rugby team which will take part in the Asian Division One Rugby Tournament which will be worked off in Dubai from April 8 to 11, 2009.

Sri Lanka ‘B’ team made Beach Volleyball history when they recorded two good victories over Kazakhstan and Malaysia convincingly by two straight sets. The most interesting was the match between Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan where the Lankans made sure of their victory from the beginning of the game.
