Dharmaloka, Gurukula clash tomorrow

The 18th annual limited overs cricket match between the traditional rivals Dharmaloka MV and Gurukula MV will be worked off on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Out of the 17 matches played so far Dharmaloka MV have won 11 and Gurukula MV have six victories to their credit. Rashmika Maduranga will captain the Dharmaloka MV team while G. Shalitha will lead the Gurukula MV side.

The sixth annual general meeting of the Nalanda College Past Cricketers Association will be held on Sunday at the College Language Laboratory at 3.00 p.m.


Unbeaten Valero to face Pitalua

Undefeated Venezu -elan knockout artist Edwin Valero steps up in weight to fight Colombia’s Antonio Pitalua here Saturday for the vacant World Boxing Council lightweight championship.

Pitalua has won his past 14 fights, all by knockouts, and owns the WBC interim crown at 46-3 with 40 career knockouts. This will be his first world title fight for 39-year-old Pitalua, who lost his past two decisions but has not had a fight go the distance in more than seven years, as well as Valero. Symonds named in Twenty20 squad

Andrew Symonds and three uncapped players were included Friday in Australia’s preliminary 30-man squad for the ICC Twenty20 world championship in England in June.

Symonds may get another chance to play for his country after a wretched season, blighted by injury, poor form and controversy in addition to undergoing counselling for personal problems.

The controversial allrounder has not played for Australia since the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Melbourne but was included in the squad, along with recalled batsman Brad Hodge, recovering fast bowler Brett Lee, Jason Krejza and Shaun Tait. AFP
