Raid on hooch dens in Akmeemana

A massive operation, continued for over two weeks to apprehend the 'main operators' behind illegal liquor breweries in the Akmeemana police area.

DIG Jagath Abeysirigunawardane has taken the initiative under a special program to combat illegal operations under the Government's Mathata Thitha Concept.

Police have executed over 30, raids, in which they arrested 33 suspects together with illegal liquor (Kasippu), fermentable substance (Goda), and brewing implements. The suspects have been charged at the Galle Magistrate's Court for the offences of unlawful brewing, transporting, keeping in possession and selling of illegal liquor.

The suspects have been released on police bail.

The unlawful liquor breweries raided have been mainly located and operated unhindered for long at Thotagoda, Kurundakanda, Bataduwa, Hiyare, Boossahena, Walahanduwa, Ankokkawala, Werallana, and Kapuhemapala.

This has been launched by the Divisional Special Operation Unit of Galle police led by OIC, SI Meshan De Siva, directed by SSP Keerthi De Silva, instructed by the DIG.
