‘Leadership change will not help UNP’

A leadership change will not help the UNP to ward off successive election defeats unless there is a change in its fundamental policies, said Labour Relations and Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratne.

Addressing a meeting after commissioning the Gonagala West - Ipilagala electricity scheme in Ruwanwella said UNP supporters were today rallying round the UPFA in large numbers disenchanted with the party they loved so dearly in the past.

They were doing so after realising that they have no future in the UNP.

Seneviratne said in fighting within the UNP leadership had politically stranded its supporters.

The new political culture created by President Mahinda Rajapaksa through his astute leadership had made the UNP to suffer this fate.

It was common knowledge that development was taking place in every nook and corner in the country today.

Infrastructure facilities like roads, bridges, culverts, electricity schemes were coming up all over the country.

The people knew that the Government was genuinely interested in their welfare and it never tried to deceive them.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council member Dr. Parakrama Athauda, Ruwanwella Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Michael Wijeweera and Pradeshiya Sabha member Ananda Perera were also present.
