Lankan expats to help bring technology to rural children
The Government is drawing the support of Sri Lankan expatriates to
bestow the latest technology to the children in rural areas to keep pace
with the modern world, Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka said.
The Prime Minister was speaking after opening the new computer unit
of the Primary School, Millewa, last Friday. The unit was funded by two
expatriates in Australia, Hemantha and Surani Punchihewa.
The Government has decided to obtain the assistance of the Lankan
expatriates to provide the rural children with modern technology,
without taking the entire burden of funding on the Government, he said.
The computer unit in the Millewa Primary School is the first phase of
this project, he said. Referring to the current situation in the country
the Premier said the LTTE which is restricted to a very small area would
have been done with had it not been for the human shield, he said.
“The Forces exercise utmost care and concern over the civilians that
they conduct the war without causing any damage to civilian life,” he
said.
The Prime Minister distributed NSB pass books among the students and
opened the shrine room of the school. |
