Ministry officials said stern action will be taken against those responsible for this based on the report. The Epidemiology Department and the Public Health Department of the Health Ministry have conducted two separate investigations into this vaccination which is to expire in November this year.

Instruments used for the vaccination have also been thoroughly checked to ascertain whether they were approved.

World Health Organization (WHO) vaccination experts were expected to arrive here yesterday.

Ministry sources said the WHO experts comprising Dr. Suchard Geheart of France and Dr. Madhav of India will conduct a complete investigation into the standard of the vaccine administered to 400,000 Sri Lankans a year.

According to Ministry sources, this type of cases may occur once in 400,000 cases and the vaccination program temporarily suspended by the Government can be resumed if recommended by the WHO experts.

Public Health Services Deputy Director Dr. Palitha Mahipala who probed this matter, was to handover the interim report to the Health Ministry Secretary yesterday evening.
