Moratu Vidyalaya face tough task against Sri Sumangala
The 56th annual big match between Moratu Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala
Panadura is scheduled begin on Friday at the Panadura Public grounds.
This year Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya celebrates its centenary and the Old
Boys Association of the school has taken the responsibility of
organising the event on a grand scale.
Sri Sumangala leads the series with eight victories while their
opponents have six wins under their belt and the 41 encounters have
ended in draws.
The last ocasion recorded with was in the year 2007 under the
leadership of Iresh Pushpakumara. Moratu Vidyalya's last win was way
back in 1971 skippered by Anura Weerasooriya.

Fifth year coloursman Thivanka Abeyratne leads the Sumangala team
with fourth year cloursman Buddhi Perera as his deputy skipper has
scored over 450 runs this season inclusive of three half centauries.
While his deputy has made over 650 runs along with seven half tons.
For Sumangala team he has been a tower of strength capturing 80
wickets with his left arm spin bowling. The most successful all rounder
for the Panadura team was Chathura Silva who has collected 920 runs
while capturing 62 wickets.
Sumangalians heavily depend on these players to deliver the good in
this big game.
Moratu Vidyalaya led by Lasitha Madusanka has recorded 13 victories
this season to establish a new record. Madushanka has performed well
this season scoring over 400 runs and capturing 39 wickets. His deputy
has been the most successful all rounder this season who also topped the
1000 run mark.
In addition to becoming a top class batsman also bowled well to
capture 66 wickets. During the season he made two centuries and six half
centuries. The other batsman to do his best for Moratu Vidyalaya is the
batsman Kalum Peiris who amassed over 500 runs.

With Aloka Priyadharshana too inform had made nearly 500 runs
expected to perform well with the bat to see them record a another
victory this season to extend the number of victories.
Leftarm spinner Chathura Vithana has been the most successful with
the ball taking a hand of 54 wickets.
With both teams having fine records under their belts will go flat
out to arrive at a decision from this game. |
