Suspect takes cyanide

Another suspect in the Trincomalee child murder case committed suicide yesterday by consuming cyanide.

He took cyanide while accompanying police to the site of a weapons cache.

The suspect Varatharajan Jaharthan (24) earlier in the morning had directed police to trace some hand bombs near the Selvanayagampura school in Trincomalee.

He was leading the police to another weapons haul when he took cyanide, Police Media spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

The main suspect responsible for the gruesome killing of six year old Jude Mary Varsha was shot dead by police while attempting to escape.
