Together We can make it

JEEP WALK organized by Jetwing St.Andrew's on 27th of February 2009 with 150 school children from 6 schools of Nuwara Eliya together with their teachers and earth team members of Jetwing St. Andrew's walked through the city displaying placards and banners, drawing the attention of all onlookers, shopkeepers, city officials and so on.

Their message was loud and clear requesting everyone to "Conserve the earth and survive or destroy it and be destroyed".

The march started from Gamini Maha Vidyalaya and ended at Jetwing St.Andrew's, covering a distance of aprox. 1.5 kms.

Continuous conservation messages by way of announcements, songs, "virindu" came off the loudspeakers that were mounted on a van that ushered the march, sans being a pollution of sound to this quiet hill station.

The City traffic police led the way clearing the road for the marchers whilst the Municipal Council provided the ambulance service to take care of any casualties.

Many citizens gathered on the roadside to witness this unique happening, probably taking place for the first time in this sleepy salubrious mountain resort.

The enthusiasm of the children reflected their love for the nature and the confidence they had to contribute towards saving the mother earth.

The children of Men cafe who are differently challenged were equal to the task as the rest of the kids and were strong proponents of the environment message conveyed on this day.

We must mention a special note to Seylan Bank and S S International who are both environmentally conscious organizations who have come forward to assist us with this project.

Also the response from the school children for this event has been outstanding. Their enthusiasm and commitment is encouraging and we must at all times attempt to harness their love for nature" mentioned Renuke Coswatte, Manager Jetwing St Andrew's.
