Direct access to Facebook on Mobitel

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel will be one of the first telecoms in Asia to provide its subscribers to share and access Facebook information in real-time via their Mobitel phones.

For the first time in Sri Lanka, all Mobitel subscribers having a Facebook account can now update their status, send messages and friend requests and write wall posts via SMS, and also upload photos via MMS to their Facebook profile.

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and connect with those that matter most to them, and helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and co-workers.

The company develops technology that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people's real-world social connections. Anyone can sign up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in an environment defined by them.

Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a privately held company and is headquartered in Palo Alto, California. CEO Mobitel Suren J Amarasekera said "Facebook is already a part of millions of people's lives all around the world.

An estimated 350,000 Sri Lankan users already use this social utility on a regular basis to stay connected and interact with people they care about.

We recognized Facebook Mobile as an important extension of the Facebook experience as it helps people stay connected in real-time, offering users to share and access interesting information whenever and wherever they want.

We believe that joining the Facebook Mobile Platform will enable Mobitel to leverage the Facebook experience, technology, and brand to provide our subscribers new, innovative ways to connect with their friends from the palm of their hand."
