State Revenue Minister and Finance Deputy Minister Ranjith
Siyambalapitiya told Parliament that it is very clear that the people
have endorsed the Mahinda Chinthana policies judging by the results of
the provincial council election and the 80 per cent votes received by
the UPFA specially in the Anamaduwa division.
“The UNP and the JVP have received only 18 per cent and two per cent
votes in Anamaduwa. The time had come for these two parties to rethink
their political strategies”, he said.
People living in the North Western and Central Provinces have given a
clear mandate to the Government to strengthen its massive development
programmes and bring peace to the country”, he said. “This has shown
their special interest in the policies of the Mahinda Chinthanaya” he
noted.
“It is evident that a large number of people have changed their
political views and voted in favour of the Government realising real
objectives and value of the Mahinda Chinthana policies,” Siyambalapitiya
noted.
“The Government’s special attention on developing infrastructure
facilities in the rural sector had been acclaimed by the people,” he
said. The Minister said this victory would bring more positive results
on the economic and social fronts.
“We have to overcome the challenges despite the negative impacts of
the global economic and financial crisis,” he said. “This is the worst
economic recession faced by the entire world”, the Minister said.
