Two production villages commissioned

Two production villages based on the clay industry in the Kurunegala district have been commissioned by Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion Minister S.B. Navinna, recently.

Thiththawella in the Hiriyala electorate and Passallewa in the Wariyapola electorate have been upgraded with common amenities and equipment required for production.

Thirty four families are in the Thiththawella village and the cost spent on the project is over Rs. four million while in Passallewa where 75 families are living received funds over Rs. three million.

Awareness programs, technical assignment and management programs will be held for the beneficiaries.


Sacred Tooth Relic exposition from March 6

A Tooth Relic exposition will be held at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy commencing from March 6 to 16, Diyawadana Nilame, Nilanga Dela Bandara said. Separate entrances will be provided for Maha Sangha and War Heroes. About 30 lakhs of devotees from all over the country including the special invitees such as diplomats are expected to participate.


Satellite equipment seized

Six suspects were nabbed along with a large quantity of satellite and other equipment and medicines in Dandugama, Seeduwa on Sunday evening.

Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said police seized a large quantity of satellite and other items and arrested six suspects at the Dandugama road block in Seeduwa. “These items were carrying in a van carefully concealed in cartons”, he added. Police seized 100 High Sensitive Satellite Box Receivers, 100 satellites, 90 Chinese made cellular phones, 1,000 hydro injections, 100 LMBS antenna and different types of medicines.

Seeduwa police are investigating.


AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Ex-Air Force Logistics Association will be held on March 1 at 9 a.m. at Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen Institute, Bristol Street, Colombo 1. All the members and non members (all trades of under the Directorate of Logistics branch) are invited.


Prize giving

The annual prize giving for the year 2008 of St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4, will be held on February 20, commencing at 3 p.m. in the Nicholas Perera Memorial Hall. Nihal Fonseka General Manager of DFCC will be the chief guest.

The 122nd annual prize distribution of Southlands College, Galle will be held at the school hall on February 19 at 2 p.m.


Widujaya exhibition

University of Sri Jayawardanapura will hold a ‘Widujaya’ educational exhibition from February 19 to 23 to mark its golden jubilee celebrations at the university premises.

This exhibition will consist of several special features including the inauguration of a radio channel service, ‘Widujaya FM’ to be broadcast between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on each day. The inaugural function will be held today presided over by Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara at 9.30 a.m.
