Relief assistance reaches IDPs
Relief items including milk powder, biscuits, bottled water, cloths
and hygiene kits, bed covers, towels, soap, toothpaste and other items
are being distributed to the Internally Displaced (IDPs) arriving in
Vavuniya.
Water is being distributed through a bowser and 50 water sealed
toilets have been put-up and another 50 are being added, a Sri Lanka Red
Cross Society (SLRCS) release said.
Three ambulances with volunteers are working round the clock
attending to their medical needs.
Services of 25 volunteers from Vavuniya SLRCS branch have been
provided to Vavuniya hospital supporting the health staff to disembark
and transfer the patients and other related activities. Another 60 male
and female volunteers are working on shift basis at Anuradhapura
hospital. Volunteers have been assigned to Vavuniya and Anuradhapura
hospitals to assist the medical staff.
The Trincomalee SLRCS branch is also helping the patients brought to
Trincomalee hospital by ICRC. The branch provided an ambulance to
transport them to hospital and helped to disembark and transfer the
patients. The branch also donated mattresses and bed sheets to patients.
The SLRCS is appealing for funds to continue its humanitarian
activities in Vavuniya for the benefit of displaced families who have
arrived in Vavuniya and housed in welfare centres. Donors can contribute
