Remanded for attempting self-immolation

Sivasubramaniam Logeswaran, who was charged with arson with intent to endanger life and affray after he set himself on fire outside No. 10, Downing Street, London, the Prime Minister's official residence was remanded till April 16, by the City of Westminster magistrate .

The 41 year man from Gloucestershire in Western England allegedly poured some liquid on his body, when more than 5,000 Sri Lankans were demonstrating in front of the Prime Minister's official residence on February 14 against alleged LTTE human rights violations.

The Police said about 4 p.m. he had entered the street having poured a liquid. Eyewitnesses said the police ran to him pinned him down to the ground and arrested him before he could set himself on fire.

The London Metropolitan Police said the person will be produced at Southwark Crown Court in April. He is believed to be a Sri Lankan Tamil.
