Hambantota Port Development project to provide more business -
SLPA chairman
The new Hambantota Port Development and Business Plan and other
facilities would open more business opportunities for Ro-Ro operations
of vehicles, fertilizer and warehouse facilities said Chairman, Sri
Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama.

He said that the Hambantota Port Development Project, The Company of
Master Mariners of Sri Lanka (CMM), a professional organisation set up
in 1990 had recently organized a series of conferences and seminars for
the benefit of the maritime industry, at the Organisation of
Professionals Association (OPA).
Wickrama said that steps will be taken soon to call Requests for
Proposals (REP) to facilitate these activities from external parties
working as a joint venture with SLPA.
The President of the CMM, Capt. A.V. Rajendra said that the
international seminars namely, ‘Quest for Oil in Sri Lanka’,
‘Development on International Safety Management’ and ‘Colombo 2010 - and
Emerging Regional Mega Port’ were a resounding success. Managing

Nihal Keppetipola, Harbour Master Capt. Ravi Jayawickrama, Chief
Engineer Southern Port Development Project Janaka Kurukulasuriya, Deputy
Harbour Master Capt. A. Hewavitharana and a number of professionals in
the maritime sector also participated.
The support extended to the Association by the industry, had
encouraged CMM to organize this presentation with the support of the
Organisation of Professionals Association (OPA) on an important project
initiated by the government.
