Lay down arms
The Tokyo Co-Chairs (Norway, Japan, US and the EU)
yesterday admitted to their failure to persuade the LTTE to allow
civilians freedom of movement.
LTTE holds health staff hostage
Health officials yesterday claimed that the LTTE
had virtually laid siege on the Puthukkudyiruppu hospital in the
Maullaitivu district, even going to the extent of preventing its
staff from leaving the premises.
Security strengthened in Colombo
Security has been tightened in Colombo in view
of the Independence Day celebrations and Deyata Kirula exhibition to
be inaugurated at the BMICH parallel to the Independence Day
celebrations, with Police deploying more than 10,000 personnel and
Security Forces increasing their presence within Colombo city.
