More security for Lankan mission in Berlin

The Sri Lankan Government asked for special protection to its embassy
in Berlin after a glass window of the embassy was smashed by some LTTE
sympathisers in a violent protest on Monday night.
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said the incident and the damage
to the mission was minimal but nevertheless they requested for police
protection to the mission and the Ambassadors residence.
A group of LTTE supporters had staged a protest in front of the
Embassy around 9.45 on Monday niight and they have thrown stones at the
Embassy afterwards breaking a glass pane. The police have rushed to the
scene and the situation was brought under control shortly.
Minister Bogollagama said this was similar to the incident that
happened in south India, where some LTTE sympathisers tried to attack
the Sri Lankan Mission in Chennai.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said following the incident the
German police has provided protection to the Embassy and the Ambassador
T.B.Maduwegedara's residence. Meanwhile the SriLankan Airlines office in
Trichi was also attacked by a group of LTTE supporters yesterday and the
security to the place has been heightened after the incident.
