A strict traffic plan is also in operation within the Colombo city during the Independence Day celebrations with a number of roads leading to Galle Face Green and Colombo Fort closed for vehicular traffic.

Train services on the coastal line and main line will also be confined to Bambalapitiya and Maradana railway stations till 1 p.m today in view of the security arrangements for the celebrations.

According to observers, the 61st Independence Day celebrations will go down in the annuls of Sri Lankan history as one of the most important milestones as Security Forces are in the verge of liberating the entire North from the clutches of the LTTE.
