Security strengthened in Colombo
Security has been tightened in Colombo in view of the Independence
Day celebrations and Deyata Kirula exhibition to be inaugurated at the
BMICH parallel to the Independence Day celebrations, with Police
deploying more than 10,000 personnel and Security Forces increasing
their presence within Colombo city.
A strict traffic plan is also in operation within the Colombo city
during the Independence Day celebrations with a number of roads leading
to Galle Face Green and Colombo Fort closed for vehicular traffic.
Train services on the coastal line and main line will also be
confined to Bambalapitiya and Maradana railway stations till 1 p.m today
in view of the security arrangements for the celebrations.
According to observers, the 61st Independence Day celebrations will
go down in the annuls of Sri Lankan history as one of the most important
milestones as Security Forces are in the verge of liberating the entire
North from the clutches of the LTTE.
