AG recalls indictment
Deputy Solicitor General Dapulla de Livera submitted before the
Supreme Court that the Attorney General has recalled the indictment
filed against two persons including Tiran Alles before the High Court
charging them with aiding and abetting the LTTE by Financing the
construction of a house for Anna Laxmi mother of an LTTE sympathiser
Laxmi Emilkanthan.
The Supreme Court Bench comprised of Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC
and Supreme Court Justices Shirani Thilakawardene and Chandra Ekanayake.
The Attorney General Department filed an indictment before the
Colombo High Court in November 2008 against Tiran Prasanna Christoper
Alles and Basnayake Mudiyanselage Dushyantha Bandara Basnayake for
making a house at cost of Rs 9.9 million at Kotte for Antony Anna Laxmi
mother of Antony Laxmi Emilkanthan, an LTTE member.
Petitioner Tiran Alles in his FR application stated that he was taken
into custody by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) illegally on
May 30, 2007 while he was being hospitalised. Later he was released when
petitioner filed an FR case before the Supreme Court.
Further hearing was put off for February 16, 2009. |
