UNP/JVP reviving LTTE -NFF

The UNP in connivance with the JVP and NGOs are attempting to revive
the LTTE at a time when it is on the verge of defeat in face of heavy
pressure exerted by the Forces, said National Freedom Front General
Secretary and Parliamentarian Nandana Gunathilake.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s head office in
Battaramulla, Gunathilake said the recent attack on a TV station and the
murder of Lasantha Wickremetunga are being made pawns by the UNP and its
imperialist allies to undermine the Government’s missions against the
terrorists. “These elements have already announced the culprits of the
attack on the TV station and the murder though the investigations into
these incidents are not completed,” he noted.
He said the UNP drove terror into the minds of people when it was in
power. “The UNP is responsible for murdering senior politicians who
followed different political ideologies,” he said.
No body uttered a single condemnation of such assassinations.
“The UNP and the JVP have fallen to such a low level that they are
unable to organise a single election meeting in the North Western and
Central Provinces,” he said.
Certain NGOs and those who support them are today trying to instill a
sense of horror in the minds of the people, he said. Gunathilake said
the Government is in a formidable position with the support of its
coalition partners and it has fully exercised the mandate given by the
people. “The people have fully endorsed the Government’s policy.
“We decided to leave the JVP when the its leadership defied the
membership and acted on his own accord,” he said. |
