MTV attack suspects play havoc at Kotte MC
The Mayor and staff of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal
Council were threatened by five suspects including two UNP members of
the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council who were released by the
Nugedoda Chief Magistrate on personal surety bail yesterday in
connection with the arson attack on the MTV studio complex in Depanama,
Pannipitiya.
The five suspects along with another gang of 40 persons came in five
vehicles and had entered the Municipal Council premises around 2.30 pm
yesterday by assaulting a MC worker. The gang have also damaged the
security guard point of the Municipal Council, Police Spokesman SSP
Ranjith Gunesekera told the Daily News yesterday.
The gang who assaulted the worker had entered the Municipal Council
office by threatening the Mayor and her staff. They had later fled the
Municipal Council premises.
Welikada Police are conducting further investigations. A special
Police team has also been deployed to re-arrest these five suspects.
Nugegoda Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Wasatha
Jinadasa yesterday released the five suspects including two UNP members
of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal on Rs.100,000 personnel
surety bail each in connection with the arson attack on the MTV studio
complex which took place on January 6.
The Chief Magistrate also ordered the five suspects to report to the
Maharagama Police on the last Sunday of every month. |
