The A-9 Highway is now under Government control after 23 years and
re-establishment of the Elephant Pass Military Camp will be accomplished
very soon, North Central Provincial Chief Minister Berty Premalal
Dissanayake said.
"Elephant Pass was more than symbolic since it was the main gateway
to Jaffna. The LTTE blocked Elephant Pass for 23 years and no one could
pass through it to the South. But our great heroes captured Elephant
Pass very successfully," he stated.
The Chief Minister said the LTTE created chaos in the country for
nearly three decades by destroying 25,000 valuable lives and properties.
Prabakaran still did not wish to lay down arms and surrender. The ban of
LTTE is a welcome decision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Dissanayake
added.
He further stated that the capture of Elephant Pass by the Security
Forces was a significant step towards defeating separatism completely.
The honour should be given to President Rajapaksa and the Security
Forces and others who contributed to the victory.
Minister of Power Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the UPFA will record
a landslide victory in the North Western Provincial Council. Today all
the UNP elephants around Wayamba knelt down before the SLFP banner. UNP
Ex-MPs for Yapahuwa and Galgamuwa joined the UPFA with thousands of
party supporters.
He said the President came to power with the promise to conclude the
war and bring peace to the country. The President has done this and yet
there is a small area to be liberated.
Minister of Finance and State Revenue Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said
there is no doubt that the ruling party would win the PC elections with
a very big majority, because the people realised that Mahinda
Rajapaksa's Government has the only solution for eradicating terrorism.
The government is carrying out a humanitarian operation in the North
to liberate the innocent civilians. The responsibility of the government
is to uplift the living standards of the people he added. |
