Railways on new track

The Railways Department has implemented a series of development
projects to provide an efficient train service to commuters in the
coastline.
Following a request made by commuters, the first train commencing
from Alutgama to Colombo has been introduced. Concrete sleepers have
been laid by the Department to ensure a smooth and speedy journey.
Several new power-sets are operating from Colombo to Panadura and
Alutgama during peak hours.
prizes will be awarded for well-kept stations to promote cleanliness.
According to a survey, the Wadduwa railway station has maintained a
very high standard.
The operation of the long distance train services from Matara to
Vavunia, Matara to Kandy are popular and these have been praised by the
commuters.
Trains on the coastal line where the signal system is operating are
punctual.
A bridge has been constructed across the Kalu ganga. It was opened by
the Transport Minister and the General Manager of Railways.
However, no additional trains are extended up to the Kalutara South
Railway station, commuters said.
Steps should be taken to check the tickets of passengers regularly to
increase the revenue of the Department. |
