Financial, educational aid for Jaffna
Social Services and Social Welfare Minister and Chairman of the
Special Task Committee, Northern Province Douglas Devananda granted Rs.
100,000 assistance to Lanka Siddha-Ayuraveda College in Jaffna as the
first stage of development activities to be carried out on the college.
A new administrative committee was also appointed.
The new committee was selected at a meeting held with the staff,
students and the former committee members, recently. Dr. Ramanathen was
selected the Chairman, Dr. Jeayaseelan Secretary, Dr. S.T. Sanmugam
Deputy Chairman and Dr. Paramesivam Assistant Secretary. twelve
committee members were also selected.
After appointing the new committee, the Minister donated Rs. 100,000
from the 'Maheshwary Velautham' Fund for the development of the college.
The Minister pledged to develop the college after discussions with
the new committee. Meanwhile, the Minister donated Rs. 200,000 to the
Jaffna District Marathon Association from the fund.
Minister Devananda also made arrangements to provide educational
material to students of low income families to encourage them to pursue
in studies.
The Minister has discussed with the Indian High Commissioner for
obtaining help in this regard.
The Indian High Commissioner has agreed to provide study kits to
5,000 needy students in the first phase. |
