Constable beaten to death

A Police constable was beaten to death with an iron rod by a person in Yatigalawatta, Walasmulla yesterday morning.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekea said the PC attached to the Matara police station was clubbed to death by the suspect when the victim was plucking coconuts in Yatigalawatta area around 10.00 a.m.

The victims is resident of Modarawana, Yatigala and was plucking coconuts when he was attacked with an iron rod by person who lives in the same area. "Before being attacked the PC, had got involved in the heated argument with the suspect at the 35 acre coconut plantation", SSP Gunasekera said.

He said the suspect had surrendered to the Walasmulla police station with the iron rod used to kill the PC.

Walasmulla police are conducting investigations.
