UNP No - Confidence motion to be debated on Friday

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara yesterday thanked the Government for
giving priority to debate the UNP sponsored No-Confidence motion against
the Government at its earliest.
The Speaker said he would have intervened in this matter if the
Government refrained from debating this No-Confidence motion, “I don’t
need to intervene as the Government has given priority to take up this
No - confidence motion in Parliament as soon as possible”.
Leader of the House, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the
Government has given its utmost priority to debate UNP’s No-confidence
motion in the near future.”
Minister de Silva said this is a very good opportunity for the
Government to show its clear majority and the political bankruptcy of
the UNP.
According to the Minister, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has
agreed to debate this No-confidence motion in Parliament on Friday
(January 9 during the previous Party Leader’s meeting) Chief Government
Whip Dinesh Gunawardene said the Government was ready to debate the
No-confidence motion at any time. Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael
Perera said this is a very essential motion.
