Plot to cripple economy - Dinesh

Minister of Urban Development Dinesh Gunawardena said in Parliament yesterday that certain elements in the Opposition of trying to cripple the economy of the country.

One of the means of this is by stating through a particular media channel that the local banks were facing bankruptcy.

The Minister was responding to a question raised by JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The Minister also said there is clearly a scheme to cripple the economy of the country.

But with the immediate moves by the Central Bank the banking system was stabilised securing the economy. Minister stated that the Government under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa was taking immediate measures to counter this massive destruction planned by the Opposition together with the LTTE terrorists.
