Over 3,500 Italian working visas for Lankans

The Italian Government has approved a decree which allows 150,000 working visas for immigrants from non European Union countries in 2008.

As for the previous years, the decree has reserved the quota of 3,500 working visas for Sri Lankan nationals.

The Italian Government's decision was taken in acknowledgement of the importance of remittances of their nationals working abroad for many countries

The renewal of the working visas quota for Sri Lankans is a confirmation of the bilateral relations between Italy and Sri Lanka, in the context of the joint determination and commitment to fight against illegal immigration, a release from the Embassy of Italy said.
