UPFA will win PC elections

"There is no doubt that the ruling Party will win the Provincial Council elections with a very big majority because the public has by now realised that Mahinda Rajapaksa's government only has the solution for terrorism, said Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Power.

The Minister was addressing a public meeting held at Nawalapitiya Urban Council premises. The meeting was held in connection with welcoming the two former Provincial Council members who tendered their nominations for the oncoming Central Provincial Council election.

H.A. Ranasinghe (SLFP) and Ananda Aluthgamage (SLFP) are the contestants.

The Minister said that it was high time for every citizen who loved peace, unity and democracy to rally under one flag shedding political, racial, religious and colour differences to bring back the lost reputation and fame to Sri Lanka.

He said Mahinda Rajapaksa was the only leader who had the courage to fight terrorism. He liked and loved the common man. His ambition was to make them live happily and peacefully anywhere they liked in the country.

To make his dream a reality the public has to strengthen his hands. For this purpose they had to elect candidates who supported the existing government. The two candidates nominated for the Central Provincial Council from the Nawalapitiya electorate were well experienced and dedicated for social work. Political leaders of different political parties like Chandrasekaran, Thondaman, Wimal Weerawansa have already pledged to support the govt. The Minister said as long as Ranil Wickremesinghe leads the UNP it will never come into power. Presently there are only six UNP Councillors in Pasbage and Ganga Ihala Korale Pradeshiya Sabha and the Nawalapitiya Urban Council. Out of these, five will join the govt. We very warmly welcome the UNPers who cross over to the govt.

He said in the year 2001, when Ranil came into power, the ongoing war was not so serious. Still he never took steps to repair a village road or any other development work in the country. Youth were not given employment of opportunitues. But now the masses know the massive development work done parallel to the war in the North. As such they will definitely give power to the present government. H.A. Ranasinghe and Ananda Aluthgamage also spoke.
