Medawachchiya Economic Centre to open shortly
Mohammed NAALIR
An Economic Centre constructed at a cost of Rs. 67 million in
Medawachchiya town will be opened shortly, North Central Province
Agrarian Services Minister K.N. Nandasena said.
The Economic Centre comprises a bank, post office, and 28 shops.
Farmers in Medawa- chchiya, Rambewa, Kebithigollewa, Horowpathana,
Kahatagasdigiliya, Mihintale, Padaviya and Sripura will benefit by the
new economic centre.
Nandasena expressed confidence that after opening the Centre the
transport costs too could be minimised. "The farmers of these areas had
to carry their produce to the Dambulla Economic Centre in the past. The
opening of this Centre will help overcome the problem caused by
perishing vegetables during transportation to a great degree," he said.
He said plans are afoot to construct a sub Centre costing Rs. 2.5
million at Kebithigollewa town for the convenience of farmers in the
Padaviya, Sripura, Jayanthipura and Parakramapura areas.
