Stocks move up
Colombo stocks ended the day with large capitalized stocks moving up,
while the broader market remained flat. The MPI was up 19 points (+1.1%)
to close at 1,673, while the ASPI closed at 1,550.
Turnover for the day was Rs 46.8 million mainly driven by Ceylinco
Insurance voting stock (Rs 17.7 million) while the share lost Rs 15.00
to close at Rs 175.00. The company's non-voting share closed at Rs
95.75, down Rs 14.25
Lanka Cement, which has been on the spotlight due to talks of revival
in the company's prospects disclosed "is importing regular shipments of
cement from Pakistan and its brand "Lanka Cement" is available in the
market at competitive prices.
Further the company has chartered a vessel to transport cement to the
Jaffna District and cement is available to consumers at approved prices.
Due to the revival of trading operations in Colombo and Jaffna, which
Company believes, has contributed to the sudden increase of LCEM
shares." Lank Cement ended the day at Rs 8.00
