Magazine reveals LTTE-Al-Qaeda link - PM

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka told Parliament yesterday an Indian weekly magazine has revealed that the LTTE has links with a terrorist group belonging to the Al-Qaeda.

The Premier said the magazine has further confirmed that a group of LTTE leaders have gone to the Kabul city to purchase arms from that terrorist organisation of the Al-Qaeda.

The article published in that India magazine had also mentioned of an LTTE racket of importing narcotics to Sri Lanka through Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It has also been confirmed that various equipment are provided to the LTTE through this sea line, he said.

All the parties should extend their support to the Government to close down all the avenues which assist the LTTE to strengthen themselves, the Premier added.
