'Public Servants should serve the people'

I wish all the candidates seeking election in the Wayamba Provincial Council from Katugampola Electoral Division be elected to the PC so that they might bring funds to develop the division, Minister of Media and Informations Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said at the Pannala Divisional Co-ordinating Committee meeting.

The Minister added, there were two PC Members representing the area in the previous election where one was green and the other was red but none of them attended the Co-ordinating Committee meetings. If they came we would have discussed the issues relating to the PC at this meeting and direct such issues to the Council through them.

The Grama Niladharis can have their own political views and vote accordingly but they should implement Government policies. The PC Members representing the respective area should be invited to the Jana Sabha meetings, as they are the co-ordinating and supervising authority of the Jathika Saviya Gama Neguma projects.

The public servants without upholding their own politics should perform their duties and responsibilities properly for the satisfaction of the people. The results of all what we do should fulfil their aspirations.

Makandura Regional Agricultural Research Institute Deputy Director Dr. Hemantha Wijewardhana said for the last 17 years the RARI has done research work but the results did not reach the cultivators, so they were not benefitted from such research work.

About two years ago we commenced research on production of compost as an alternative to chemical fertilizer, which became successful.

We took steps to take the results of that to the cultivators. Accordingly 1,222 training work shops on the production of compost was held in 2008.

More than 50,000 cultivators from the different districts attended to these workshops.

Pannala Divisional Director of Health Services Dr. Preman Fernando said that in 2008 72 rat fever cases were identified in the division.

Four of the victims died. However due to the prompt action the officials took rat fever was controlled. A Dengue prevention programme was implemented during the year and was successful. Only six positive cases were identified in the area.

The Pradeshiya Sabha extended support for the prevention of diseases programmes.
