Gang vandalise MTV complex at Depanama

The MTV/MBC, TV and radio station was severely damaged following a group of thugs attacked the main control room and set on fire the entire complex in the wee hours of yesterday at Depanama, Pannipitiya.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said around 20 unidentified armed men arrived in a vehicle and stormed the MTV/MBC station and lined up the employees and security guards on gun point at around 1.45am.

"The main control room was completely guttered by fire. The fire also destroyed all equipment at the complex," he added.

He said that nobody was reported injured in the incident and the damages were not estimated yet. "We suspect due to a hand grenade explosion by the gangsters caused the fire inside the MTV/MBC complex," SSP Gunasekera added.

Maharagama police are investigating.
