'North will see massive development'

Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena yesterday stated with the liberation of the remaining Mullaitivu area, the North will witness a massive development drive which will be on par with other provinces in the South.

Minister Abeywardena speaking to the media at his Ministry said since the Government is carrying out a humanitarian operation in the North to liberate the innocent civilians it has a responsibility of developing the region to uplift the living standards of the masses.

He said a huge quantity of resources will be used to develop the North than recently liberated Eastern Province.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has also instructed the authorities to release enough funds to develop the North, he added.
