SLFP for media freedom
The SLFP has condemned with abhorrence yesterday's attack on the
Depanama studios of the Sirasa Media network by an armed gang.
SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithripala Sirisena in a statement
issued on behalf of the SLFP, said the party always stood for upholding
media freedom in the country and he wished to express deep condemnation
of such dastardly acts on behalf of the party and on his personal
behalf.
The party wished to emphasise that those responsible for this attack
should be identified after a proper investigation and strict punishment
should be meted out to them.
The President has already directed the IGP to conduct an impartial
investigation into the incident.
The perpetrators have still not been identified. However the party
believes that such attacks would undermine the prestige the country and
the government gained through victories in the humanitarian operations
in the North.
In the recent past various parties also tried to instigate
international opinion against the Government by highlighting false news
about a deterioration of democracy in the country.
Attacks of this nature would give validity to such untruths.
A proper investigation should be made to the incident and those
responsible punished giving thought to this aspect as well. |
