LSSP 73rd anniversary

Celebrations to mark the 73rd anniversary of the LSSP will be held at the Colombo Public Library Auditorium at 3 pm today (December 18). Party Leader and Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana will preside.

The LSSP was founded in 1935 by leaders of the calibre of late Dr. N.M. Perera, Dr. Colvin R de Silva, Dr. S.A. Wickramasinghe, Philip Gunawardena and Leslie Goonawardene to fight against colonial rule and establish a socialist society. It had its origins from the Suriyamal Movement which began in 1931 to save people from the Malaria epidemic which spread especially in Thun Korale during that period.
