Special Committee to probe Maths paper

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha who paid urgent attention to the problem relating to the Ordinary Level Mathematics II question paper has appointed a Special Committee to probe the matter and submit its recommendations regarding suitable remedial action.

The Committee will submit its recommendations as to what action should be taken to prevent any injustice to students who sat this paper and the Ministry would take its decision on the matter accordingly.

The Committee comprises Ministry Secretary, Commissioner General and Deputy Commissioner General of Examinations, Directors of the National Institute of Education skilled in the mathematics subject and several mathematics teachers, said the Education Ministry in a communique issued yesterday.

The Committee will submit its recommendations as to what action should be taken to prevent any injustice to students who sat this paper and the Ministry would take its decision on the matter accordingly.

Meanwhile, the GCE O/L examination centre located at Thurstan College, Colombo ran short of the New Syllabus Science 11 question paper with 20 students stranded for half an hour till the required number was brought from the center at Royal College, Colombo yesterday.

Students at Exam Hall 2 faced this crisis while others who were served with the question paper engaged themselves with the answer scripts. The candidates were given the examination paper around 9 am though the Science 11 paper was due to commence at 8.30 am. However, the candidates had been given 30 minutes extra time to answer the question paper. The supervisor had hired a three-wheeler to go to Royal College to meet the shortage.
