Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday said in Colombo that
the Government braved a number of conspiracies hatched by traitorous
elements in the UNP.
"The UNP's attempt to overthrow the Government at the 2007 Budget
voting was foiled due to a timely decision by the JVP.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe tried to create a wedge
between the Indian and Sri Lankan Governments.
But the Government managed to solve that issue amicably," he said.
"This is the only country that has an Opposition Leader who is
supposed to serve the people had written to an international bank not to
provide credit facilities to the Government for the continuation of
development work." "This is the only country where the Opposition Leader
is averse to people's welfare and the country's development," he said.
"The UNP demanded a Constitutional amendment to facilitate the
extension of GSP+ scheme. The Government will never betray national
security or the country's sovereignty," Minister Alahapperuma said.
The United National Party and its Leader is delighted when an LTTE
aircraft carries out attacks targeting the economic nerve centres in the
country and when protests against Sri Lanka takes place in Tamil Nadu.
Enterprise and Investment Promotion Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama
said the Government's agriculture based economic policies have been
endorsed by foreign countries.
Our economy is still vibrant in comparison to other countries in the
region which are going through a recession due to the global financial
downturn, he said. |
