Bolt and Campbell - virtual winners of Prensa Latina Poll
Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell and the
Argentinian soccer team woke up on Monday as virtual winners of the
annual survey by Prensa Latina news agency.
Preferred by the German DPA news agency, Bolt reached 63 votes, after
the opinions of 73 media organizations from Europe, Asia and the
Americas were registered.
Bolt won three Gold medals in Beijing's Olympic Games, dominating the
100 and 200 meters and being parted of the winning quarter in the 4x100
relay race.
He established two world records in each of those events, and was
chosen as best sportsman of the year by the International Athletics
Federation.
Campbell, also favoured by DPA news agency, and Olympic champion, won
37 votes, far from her closest chasers, Mexicans Maria del Rosario
Espinosa and Lorena Ochoa.
The Argentinian soccer team, champion in Beijing-2008, won 45 votes,
two times that of the Brazilian women's volleyball team.
