“Give me the Kandy Deputy Mayor’s post or I will....”

Kandy Municipal Councillor Ilahi Abdeen (UNP) has warned that he would take a crucial political decision before October 31 if the deputy mayoral post is not offered to him by the party hierarchy.

He said he should be given the post in keeping with the party decision after two years and this deadline has been long overdue since April.

Deputy Mayor Suminda Wickramasinghe was allowed to hold this post only for two years, Abdeen said. Abdeen was formerly a Provincial Councillor of the Central Province as well as the former Chairman of the Kandy Private Bus Operators’ Association.

He holds the post of the co-ordinating secretary of UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella.
