SDCC undertakes projects worth over Rs. 10 billion - Minister
Construction and Engineering Services Minister Rajitha Senaratne said
he was able to reorganise and revive the State Development and
Construction Corporation (SDCC), the State Engineering Corporation
during the past 1 1/2 years.
Addressing the 37th anniversary meeting of the State Development and
Construction Corporation, the Minister said several major development
projects at a cost of 2,000 million rupees had already been started
under 'Mahinda Chinthanaya' in the country.
This Corporation inaugurated in 1971 by the then Minister Late
Maithripala Senanayake, handles all the civil engineering activities,
highway, irrigation and power generation projects in particular. More
than 300 bridges have already been constructed by the Corporation.
"At the time, I assumed duties, only 2.5 billion worth of Government
contracts were offered to this Corporation. Now it has reached 10
billion rupees annually, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said. Ministry
Additional Secretary W. D. Gunapala, Chairman S. A. M. U. Samarasekara
and Working Director Thilak Premalal were also present.
