Mercantile Hockey Sevens on October 5

The Mercantile Hockey Association will be conducting their 32nd Annual Seven-a-side Tournament on Sunday the 5th of October 2008 from 8.00 a.m. onwards at the Saravanamuttu Oval.

Browns PLC will be sponsoring this popular event for the 2nd consecutive year.

Teams will be participating in five separate Divisions and the Cream of Sri Lankan talent will be displaying their skills to bring honour to their respective firms.

The Chief Guest will be Murali Prakash - Managing Director/CEO of Browns Group of Companies.

The Guests of Honour will be Prakash Schaffter, Managing Director Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd and Mrs. Sumi Schaffter.

The terms have been categorised as follows:

"A" Division - Dennis De Rosayro Trophy Donated by Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd.

Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank "A", Singers, Sampath Bank and Seylan Bank and Hatton National Bank "B".

Runner up - Mercantile H.A. Trophy - Donated by a well wisher

"A" Division - Dennis De Rosayro Fair Play Trophy donated by IDAC (Pvt) Ltd.

Will be contested by only "A" Division teams. Identical styled replicas awarded to the winners.

The M. H. A. will also be awarding Hockey Sticks to the outstanding Player in all 5 Divisions.

The Mercantile H. A. will present cash awards of Rs. 7,500, Rs. 6,000, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 5,000 to the winners from "A" to "E" Divisions respectively in addition to the replicas.

A special merit plaque will be presented to Chandra T. S. Schaffter for his outstanding contribution made for Hockey, as Player, Manager and Administrator to Mercantile Ceylon/Sri Lanka.
