Protecting public assets our duty - Godakanda PS Chairman
U. H. Ranil Kumara, Rakwana group correspondent
Godakanda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman V. G. Mangalatissa said that most
of the by-roads are being damaged owing to the neglect of the drain
systems. This has caused a greater burden to the Government which has to
spend more for repairing these by-roads and sub-roads.
Mangalatissa said so at the launch of a new project to construct a
drainage system at Atakalanpanna and Buluwana.
He said the Government spends a lot of money on construction work and
this money belongs to the citizens of our country. It is our duty to
protect the country's assets as well as funds. The drain systems must be
kept clean by us.
The roads in our area are being damaged due to the negligence by us
and not due to natural disasters. The minor drain systems are being
blocked because of the negligence of the public.
Rain water overflows from drains because the public do unwanted
things like putting up antennas or throwing garbage in drains. These
actions should be avoided and we must have the intention of keeping our
drain systems clean and in order.
Some residents have built walls on the drain lines and some collect
their garbage in these gardens drains.
These practises should be prevented and such residents should be
prosecuted and punished when the Government is allocating more funds to
develop the rural areas by launching many projects such as "Jathika
Saviya", "Gama Neguma" and we as the public of the privileged areas
should render our maximum support to maintain the facilities which are
granted to us. So the public in this area should see as their duty to
protect the public assets, he said. |
