Youth Empowerment and Socio-economic Development Minister and Ceylon
Workers Congress General Secretary Arumugan Thondaman has allocated Rs.
one million to renovate the Neegroramaya Viharaya in Hatton town.
Ceylon Workers Congress National organiser R. Yogarajan and Private
Secretary to the Minister M. Naushad Junaideen laid the foundation
stones to initiate the development work.
Ramazan lecture
A lecture on the Significance of Ramazan organised by the Maligawatte
Jumma Mosque will be held today after Isha prayers at the Mosque.
Ihsaniyyah Arabic College Managing Director Deshabandu Al Haj. Niyas
Moulavi will be the guest speaker.
Medical clinic
A medical clinic organised by the William Gnanananda Foundation under
the guidance of Ven. Batuwahene Gnanananda Thera, Chief Incumbent of the
Gangarama Purana Viharaya Wadduwa, Bentota will be held today from 9.00
a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
This event held annually in commemoration of William Gunarathne, a
former village headman and Anulawathi Perera is sponsored by the Lions
Club of Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia.
Dialogue for professionals
A dialogue for Young Professionals on he topic "Being a Strategic
Person in Your Profession" will be held on September 1, from 5.30 p.m.
at the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre, 74, Davidson Road, Bambalapitiya.
The keynote address will be delivered by Raja Yogini Kamalesh Gupta,
a senior meditation teacher from India.
All activities of Brahma Kumaris are free of charge.
Christine Wilson collection
The Christine Wilson Collection - an exhibition and sale of paintings
by Christine Wilson, also including work by Keith Harrington, Donald
Ramanayake and other leading artists will be held on September 6 and 7
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dutch Burgher Union Hall 114, Reid Avenue,
Colombo 4. Proceeds from the sale of paintings will be donated to the
St. Nikolaas' Home for Elders.
It is organised by the Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon as part of its
100th anniversary celebrations.
SLPA Chairman resigns
Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Saliya Wickremasuriya has resigned
from his post due to personal commitments. Wickremasuriya has tendered
his resignation to Ports and Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa.
According to the SLPA sources, the Minister has accepted his
resignation.
Lankan student in India robbed
Two persons were arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing a Sri
Lankan and a Kenyan student in Noida, India, police said.
Aslam Marika from Sri Lanka and Backkoo from Kenya, students of
Marwah Studio Institute in Noida, were robbed on Wednesday when three
motorcycle borne-men snatched the bag of one of them containing a
passport and other documents.
Interviews for CP teacher vacancies

Interviews to recruit graduates to teacher vacancies in the Central
Province will be held in the next two weeks, Central Province Chief
Minister, Sarath Ekanayake said.
The Central Province Public Service Commission has received result of
the competitive examination held for recruitment.
Missing: Help find them
The
Police Department is seeking public help to trace Devapura Devage
Chamodi Pabasara, 4, of 75/2, off Dungalagoda, Ullalopola, Divulapitiya
and her mother Sasanthi Kumari Ranpadeniya, 30, missing since July 28,
2008.
Pabasara
is fair, hair short cut and has a scar on her chin, Sasanthi Kumari
Ranpadeniya, 30, a 5 feet in height and has curly hair.
Ranathunga
Arachi Kolombage Harsha Lakmal, 14, of 122, Kadawatha is reported
missing since June 28 and was last seen in a blue denim trouser and long
sleeve shirt. Harsha is fair in complexion, hair combed to the forehead
and studying in the fourth grade.

The Criminal Investigation Department seeks the whereabouts of
Sandeva Sanoth Dharmanath Wickremasuriya, ID Number 740540238V, an
accused in a case being heard in the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.
His passport is M1863579 and has been impounded by Court.

Arachchige Uma Kanthan, 37, of Shanthi Road, Hendala, Wattala was
reportedly abducted while he was travelling in a three-wheeler on the
Wattala-Hendala Road on June 11, 2006. He is five feet six inches in
height, hair cut short and parted in the middle.
The special unit on missing persons seeks public help to trace
Thevaraja Jegadeepan, 30, of Kudirruppu, Eravur reported missing since
July 7, 2006.
He is five feet four inches, hair cut short and parted to a side. He
has a scar on his left hand. He is a three-wheeler driver and was last
seen in a black trouser, and a blue and rose coloured T shirt.

Gayanthi Chandima Silva, 27, of 56, Pathimawatte, Bandirippuwa,
Lunuwila is reported missing since August 8. She is five feet and fair
in complexion. She was last seen in a black skirt and red blouse.
