Contempt of Court: Notice issued on Opposition Leader
Sandasen Marasinghe
COLOMBO: Colombo District Judge Sisira Ratnayake yesterday issued
notice on UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to appear before Colombo
District Court on September 18.
The Court issued the Notice based on a pleading that the content of
Wickremesinghe’s affidavit produced before the District Court was false
and his action was contempt of Court.
Plaintiffs former UNP Member of Parliament W.I. Anura Bastian and UNP
Western Provincial Counsellor Anil Kumara Wijesinghe pleaded before the
Court that the content of the affidavit produced by Wickremesinghe
before the court in connection that their plaint was false and pleaded
to issue notice on him.
The plaintiff filed the plaint against Wickremesinghe and Sri Lanka
Freedom Party Mahajana Wing convenor Mangala Samaraweera on an earlier
date.
Former UNP Member of Parliament W.I. Anura Bastian and UNP Western
Provincial Counsellor Anil Kumara Wijesinghe filed the plaint
challenging that the agreement defendants entered into on July 19, 2007
was a violation of UNP party Constitution and cited Wickremesinghe and
Samaraweera as defendants.
Plaintiffs filing the plaint stated Wickremesinghe had entered into
an agreement with the convenor of the SLFP Mahajana Wing without the
approval of the Party Convention or the National Executive Committee on
July 19, 2007 and it was a violation of the UNP Party Constitution. |
