Six ships deployed in Palk Bay

Ahead of the SAARC summit in Colombo next week, India has stepped up its vigil in the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar by deploying six Coast Guard ships.

Coast Guard Assistant Commander Roshan Pal Singh today said the ships would maintain a tight vigil and undertake round-the-clock patrolling.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to attend the two-day regional cooperation meeting along with a host of ministers and senior officials of SAARC countries.

Already, the Navy, Coast Guard and the Coastal Security Force of Tamil Nadu police have mounted joint patrolling in the Palk Bay.
